Legislating health care policies and regulations is a difficult task that once in practice may have unintended consequences with long-term implications. The good news is that while issues concerning access and reimbursement continue, the underlying work to address population health, quality improvement, and patient safety is forging ahead.
This course was recorded live at our 2018 Annual Health Care Quality & Patient Safety Conference.
At the conclusion of the activity, attendees will be able to:
Recognize the impact of the physician advisor role in population health on fusing reimbursement with quality care
Explore the opportunities to improve quality through measurement and reporting for safe and affordable care
Determine high reliability practices that will enable a positive impact on the care provided in your organization
Describe the role of cybersecurity in health care practices and the policies practitioners need to embrace to ensure patients are invulnerable

This course is intended for Physicians of all specialties, Nurses, and Other Health Care Professionals with appropriate CME credit and nursing contact hours offered for each profession.
The American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. (ABQAURP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

John Bernot, MD - Vice President, Quality Initiatives, National Quality Forum (NQF)
Dr. John Bernot specializes in healthcare quality measurement and health information technology while also remaining a primary care physician. At NQF, he leads numerous initiatives including the NQF Health Equity Program, prioritizing quality measurement efforts, measuring quality in health information technology initiatives, and the Primary Care & Chronic Illness measure endorsement team. He directs the Measure Applications Partnership Clinician Workgroup, which evaluates quality measures for two federal payment programs: the Medicare Shared Savings Program and the Merit-based Incentive Payment System.
Jay D. Bhatt, DO, MPH, MA, FACP - Senior Vice President /Chief Medical Officer, American Hospital Association & President, HRET
Dr. Jay Bhatt was the first Chief Health Officer at the Illinois Health & Hospital Association. In this role, he led large improvement projects. Previously, he was Managing Deputy Commissioner and Chief Innovation Officer for the Chicago Department of Public Health. There he led the implementation of Healthy Chicago, the city's public health agenda, and innovations in cross-sector partnerships, predictive analytics, epidemiology and informatics.
Thompson H. Boyd, III, MD, CHCQM, CPHIMS - Medical Director of Informatics, Tenet Healthcare - Hahnemann University Hospital
Dr. Thompson Boyd served as a practicing physician in Internal Medicine for over 24 years. In 2007, he went to work full-time at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia as the Physician Liaison, and then in 2015, as the Medical Director of Informatics. Hahnemann has been in a CPOE environment for over 25 years and is a leader in technologic advances in patient safety and other core measures. Very active with HIMSS, Dr. Boyd serves on several committees and workgroups promoting data security and interoperability for our nation. Dr. Boyd has been a member of ABQAURP’s Board of Directors and serves on several of our committees.
Mary Bernadette Forkin, RN, BSN, CHCQM, MSHS - Director Clinical Quality Improvement, MBF Qualitycare
Ms. Forkin currently serves as the Director Clinical Quality Improvement for MBF Qualitycare and has been a practicing nurse for over 31 years. She has practiced as an RN in Intensive/Cardiac/Shock Trauma Step-down care units, and has 11 years of healthcare insurance experience. More recently she spent 8 years in the acute care teaching hospital regulatory arena as the Director Clinical Quality Improvement. Ms. Forkin achieved certification as an ABQAURP Diplomate in 1998, and has been a member of ABQAURP’s Board of Directors since 2010.
Edward Paihsiang Hu, MD, CHCQM-PHYADV - Physician Advisor, Rex Hospital
Dr. Edward Hu is the President of the American College of Physician Advisors. He completed his medical education at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He is also a hospitalist and Medical Director of Case Management at Rex Hospital, part of the University of North Carolina Healthcare System.
Cheri Lattimer, RN, BSN - Executive Director, National Transitions of Care Coalition
Cheri Lattimer is Executive Director for the National Transitions of Care Coalition (NTOCC) and CEO of Integrity Consulting & Advocacy. Her leadership in quality improvement, case management, care coordination, and transitions of care is known on the national and international landscape. She often presents internationally on integrated health management and transitions of care topics and is involved with many professional organizations.
Tabassum Salam, MD, CHCQM - Senior Physician Advisor for Population Health, Christiana Care Health System
Dr. Tabassum Salam serves as Senior Physician Advisor for Population Health at Christiana Care Health System. She leads and orchestrates population health management projects for the health system. She also serves as the Medical Director of Carelink CareNow services, leading a care coordination team of nurses, pharmacists and social workers who care for large populations through the state of Delaware. Her Carelink CareNow team received the prestigious 2017 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, for Local Level Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality, jointly presented by The Joint Commission and the National Quality Forum. She is also the recipient of the 2017 Diplomate Achievement Award from the American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physicians.
Sunil K. Sinha, MD, CHCQM, MBA, FACP - Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Barnes Jewish Christian Health System Medical Group and CME Chair, ABQAURP
Dr. Sunil Sinha is Chair of the CME Committee and is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Barnes Jewish Christian Health System Medical Group. Dr. Sinha previously served as Director of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety with JenCare / ChenMed Neighborhood Medical Centers and was Chief Medical Officer at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. He is a board-certified internist and served as senior examiner and judge for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program; he serves as a juror for the National Quality Forum’s National Health Care Quality Award and the Joint Commission’s Eisenberg Award. Dr. Sinha has been an ABQAURP Diplomate since 2000; and has been an asset to ABQAURP’s CME Committee.
Howard Stein, DO, MHA, CHCQM-PHYADV - CentraState Medical Center / American College of Physician Advisors
Dr. Howard Stein currently serves as the Associate Director of Medical Affairs of CentraState Medical Center in New Jersey. Acting as a full time Physician Advisor, he is also the President of CentraState Medical Associates. As a founding member, Dr. Stein has served on the Executive Board of the American College of Physician Advisors since its inception. Dr. Stein is board certified as a family physician, previously serving as a U.S. Air Force physician.
Edward Peck, III, PhD, ABPP-CN - Neuropsychological Services of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University
Dr. Edward "Ted" Peck has a group neuropsychological practice in Richmond, Virginia. He divides his practice among clinical and forensic related services in Neuropsychology and research involving medications for the management of dementia and other neurologic disorders. He consults nationally on the business aspects of private practice and is the author/coauthor of numerous articles, book chapters and presentations in the USA and other countries.
